The City on your doorstep

The UCD Belfield Campus boasts excellent transport links, with the city centre just a short 15-20 minute bus ride away. You can see all the sights our city has to offer by using a wide array of transport options including buses, trams and commuter trains.

Please note that while you can buy a ticket with your credit/debit card to travel on the Luas (tram) and the Dart (commuter train), you will need to pay with exact change (coins only) on Dublin Bus.

However to get around this we suggest buying a Leap Card, this can be used on all forms of public transport in Dublin and Ireland (short hop commuter trips only). Leap Cards can be purchased in the UCD Centra and cost €5. The Leap card  can be topped up with the Leap Card App, available on Android and Apple devices. This allows you to tap on to all forms of public transport in Dublin for a cheaper fare, and is much more convenient than paying with coins / ticket machines.

Dublin Bus - UCD has excellent bus connections

You can find the UCD Bus Park located just a short walk from the Village Building. Here you can hop on the 39A bus, which will bring you directly into the city centre.

Alternatively you can hop on the E1 or E2 at the main campus entrance which will also bring you into the city centre and beyond.

Please note that Dublin Bus only accept payment by exact coins (re change or refunds offered) or payment by leap card.

Luas - Speed around the city on the Luas

You can hop on the Luas for quick and convenient transport around the city centre. The Green and Red lines serve all of the major tourist sites and shopping districts in Dublin. Unfortunately the Luas does not stop near UCD, but this can be reach by taking the S4 bus from campus to Milltown Luas stop (Green Line)

Please note to get a Luas ticket you can either use a Leap card or buy a ticket at the ticket machine at the Luas stop.

Dart/Train - Travel around County Dublin

The DART is one of the two train services you can avail of in Dublin. It is a quick, convenient train service that allows you to see the best of County Dublin and not just the city.

Hop on the DART to Killiney or Dun Laoghaire to see some of the county's stunning beaches, or head northbound to Malahide to visit the beautiful Malahide Castle!

The closest DART stations to UCD are the Sydney Parade or Booterstown Stations, located approximately 30 minutes walk from the campus.

Please note to get a Luas ticket you can either use a Leap card or buy a ticket at the ticket machine at the dart station.

Going further afield and see more of what Ireland has to offer?

The two main train stations in Dublin are Heuston Train Station and  Connolly Station which are easily accessible from the city centre.

Train Tickets can be booked on the Irish Rail website or bought at the station. Leap Cards are not an accepted payment form on Irish Rail services.

Cycling - Getting around UCD and Dublin

Travelling around UCD and Dublin has just got a whole lot easier as station-free bike rental is here.

These GPS enabled bikes are located on bike ranks throughout the campus and are available for use in seconds, right from your phone.

All you have to do to get in on the action, is download the BleeperBike App, register and find the nearest BleeperBike to you, scan the QR code on the bike to unlock and off you go.

Bleeper bikes are also available to rent in the city centre.

Taxi - Getting around Dublin

Taxis are the quickest and most convenient way to get around Dublin, however this can be expensive.

If you are in the city or the airport, you can hail a taxi the traditional way but to hail a taxi while on campus we would recommend using taxi apps such as Uber or FreeNow. These apps are the quickest way of getting a taxi, and they will give you an indication of the cost and duration of your journey.
