Explore Dublin with Ease from UCD’s Belfield Campus
University College Dublin’s Belfield campus, located just a 20-minute bus ride from Dublin city centre, offers excellent transport connections to explore the city and beyond.
With a variety of options including buses, trams, commuter trains, and more, you can easily access Dublin’s iconic sights and attractions.
When considering using Public Transport, UCD recommends the use of a Leap Card for seamless travel. For convenient and cost-effective travel across Dublin’s public transport network, we recommend purchasing a Leap Card (€5), available at the UCD Centra.
This card can be used on buses, Luas trams, and DART trains (for short-hop commuter trips) and offers discounted fares compared to cash payments.
Top up your Leap Card using the Leap Card App, available on Android and iOS devices, for quick tap-on access, or top up in the local shop.
Please Note: Dublin Bus requires exact change in coins or a Leap Card, as no change or refunds are provided.
Public Transport Options
Dublin Bus at the UCD Bus Park, a short walk from the Village Building, offers direct access to the city centre via the 39A bus.
Alternatively, the E1 or E2 buses, available at the main campus entrance, connect to the city centre and beyond.
Payment is accepted via Leap Card or exact coins only.
Luas (Tram) The Luas Green and Red lines provide fast and convenient access to Dublin’s major tourist sites and shopping districts. While the Luas does not stop directly at UCD, you can take the S4 bus from campus to the Milltown Luas stop (Green Line).
Tickets can be purchased at Luas stop ticket machines or use a Leap Card.
DART (Commuter Train) The DART offers a swift and scenic way to explore County Dublin. Visit stunning beaches in Killiney or Dun Laoghaire, or travel north to Malahide to tour the picturesque Malahide Castle. The nearest DART stations, Sydney Parade and Booterstown, are approximately a 30-minute walk from campus.
Tickets are available at DART station ticket machines or use a Leap Card.
Intercity Trains For travel beyond Dublin, Heuston and Connolly train stations, accessible from the city centre, connect to destinations across Ireland.
Book tickets online via the Irish Rail website or at the station.
Note: Leap Cards are not accepted for Irish Rail services, seperate tickets required.
